Hello, let me describe the setup and the problem. I have a van in which i installed RUTX50 to get internet to my van. It is powered by the van’s 12V battery. When the van is stationary i plug 230V AC power from the wall to my van to power up all the other equipment in my van, which includes Ubiquiti router and switch. Ubiquiti is providing the main network in my van. I use RUTX50 in passthrough mode to get the internet access and everything works great. But when the van is not powered from the wall i need RUTX to supply the internet for my security camera, which is also powered by van’s battery. When i connect the camera directly to RUTX ethernet port, the camera gets the IP address, but there is no internet access. From what i’ve read, RUTX in passthrough mode should still provide internet access when connected to it, but it doesn’t. Am i wrong about it or do i need to configure something in order for this to work?
Hello, Dominykas,
When in passthrough mode, the RUTX50 assigns its mobile IP to one LAN device only (usually identified by MAC address). All other LAN devices - including your camera - will:
-
Receive no IP from RUTX50
-
Not route through the mobile WAN interface
-
Have no internet access
I’d recommend looking into bridge mode instead of passthrough mode. In bridge mode, the router forwards the DHCP lease from the carrier directly to the LAN client. This way the router/gateway will only act as a “bridge” between the LTE network and a wired client.
In case you might need it, we have a quick guide on how to configure (and even troubleshoot) the bridge mode configuration: Mobile Bridge mode troubleshooting - Teltonika Networks Wiki
