Inquiry: Remote Access via WireGuard on RUT200 using Mobile Data SIM

Dear Teltonika Support Team,

We are currently using a Teltonika RUT200 router and would like to know whether it is possible to establish remote access via WireGuard using a regular mobile data SIM card (without a static IP).

The installation is located in a rural area, where internet connectivity is sometimes limited or unstable.

Our main question is:
What technical requirements must the mobile data SIM card meet in order to successfully establish a WireGuard connection to the router?
Is a public/static IP address required, or is it possible to use a standard SIM card with a dynamic IP?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,

Hello,

Public IP is required, correct. You can find a configuration example with the prerequisites here: WireGuard Configuration Example - Teltonika Networks Wiki

As mentioned above, it should have a Public IP address, or to be more specific, one of the ends needs to have a Public IP, while the other just needs an internet connection.

Regards,

M.

I’d also like to mention, that if you don’t have a Public IP address at the moment, please look into ZeroTier or RMS VPN:

  1. ZeroTier Configuration - Teltonika Networks Wiki
  2. RMS VPN Hubs - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Neither of these require a Public IP address.

Regards,

M.

Thank you very much for the quick feedback, that helps me!

No worries at all!
