How to set RUTX08 in bridge mode?

Hello Community,

I would like to set RUTX08 in a bridge mode, pretty similar to its WiFi capable cousins, but i cannot find a setting that would easily do that. After setting the router in a bridge mode I would expect it will behave as a dumb switch. What steps do I need to do take in order to achieve that?

Kind regards,
G

Hello,

You can easily accomplish this by disabling DHCP and NAT on the device. Follow these instructions:

  1. Go to Network → WAN and click “Edit” next to WAN interface.

  2. In the new pop-up window, select Protocol as “None”.

  3. Then, go to Network → LAN and click “Edit” next to LAN interface.

  4. In the new pop-up window, select Protocol as “None”.

  5. You’ll see a message indicating that the device will no longer be reachable. To reach it again, you’ll need to do a factory reset.

With these steps, your RUTX08 should function as a “dumb” switch. Just make sure to use LAN ports for this functionality, as the WAN is not configured to work in this setup. To add the WAN port to this “switch” functionality, you’ll need to configure the WAN port as LAN. Here’s a guide: LAN as WAN.

Additionally, I wanted to ask you for what purpose/situation you want to configure the router like this. Just to use it as a switch or any other use-case?

Best regards,
