How to get RUT200 WLAN broadcast visible to legacy clients

I have brand new RUT200 router, with fw RUT2M_R_00.07.18.2. Created a WPA2 PSK AP with Hide SSID=Off. Radio channel tested first as Auto and then Channel 6. Most WLAN clients see the AP broadcasting and can connect OK, but some older clients cannot see it:

  • Shelly 1L IoT device
  • Tractive dog collar
Both devices can see an older ZyXEL LTE3301 broadcasting its AP, though.

How to configure the AP in RUT200 so that it is visible also for legacy clients?

Navigate to NETWORK > WIRELESS > RADIO and ‘Edit’ the 2.4GHz instance.

Under the ‘General Settings’ tab, in the section titled ‘Operating frequency’, click on the ‘Mode’ drop-down and select ‘Legacy’.

Already had tested this and double-checked it now. Also tried to enable the “Allow legacy 802.11b rates” option, with no luck. The channel seems to be as ch 6. Any ideas still?

My only other suggestions would be to try using the older encryption standard of WPA, depending on what your devices support.

Sorry I can’t be of more assistance.

I found resolution to both WLAN clients:

  • The Shelly device problem was my fault. I didn’t know that I cannot edit its WLAN client settings directly via its admin console IP address. Instead, I had to enable its own WLAN AP, then it was no problem to configure it to use RUT200.
  • The Tractive GPS dog collar did not still not see the RUT200 AP but instead I left the Shelly AP running and that worked for Tractive. As the Shelly resides in the building, the dog collar detects the AP broadcast signal and stays in its power-saving mode. This is an adequate workaround for me.

So this case is now resolved. Thank you Mike for your quick responses and support.
