I live in the mountains, on a ledge with good visibility in to a valley, where I can see multiple 5G masts. Currently I get my internet via a Zyxel outdoor router I am not very happy with. On thing that it does right however is that it has directional antennas, with decent gain.
So I want to replace it with a Teltonica, to have a router that has more features (and that is “hackable” as it is OpenWRT based), and that has an eSim. (Handy when the thing lives outside on a pole…)
But I would need to pair that with an enclosure and antenna’s.
I could go for one of the QuWireless antanna enclosures, but none have the high gain that I would like. So thinking along the line of getting a good outdoor enclosure, and separate antennas.
Good antennas can be gotten from Poynting. But what about a good enclosure?
A google search turned up GTT Wireless, but can you buy these anywhere.
So here is my question: Any good pointers to good outdoor enclosures for Teltonica, that I can attache external antennas to?
The antenna selection depends on environmental factors. The higher the dBi number of the antenna, the higher the gain, but less of a broad field pattern, meaning that the signal strength will go further but in a narrower direction. Higher gain is not automatically better - it depends on the application. If you do not intend to point the antenna in a particular direction, then no need for much gain but if you intend to point the antenna in a particular direction then need to choose antenna with a higher gain.
I would advise you to take a look at our outdoor routers OTD140 or OTD500. Both are IP 55.
OTD140 Antennas specifications: 2 x 698 - 960 / 1710 - 2690MHz, 50 Ω, VSWR <3, gain <4.5 dBi, omnidirectional
Thanks for the answer. The Zyxel I currently have has directional antennas, with a claimed gain of around 10dB.
I had been looking at the ODT500, but I am a bit worried that its gain might not be enough. WIth a solution with separate antennas I can always get better antennas.
I think I might have found a source for those GTT Wireless enclosures that ships where I live.
