Gpsctl outputs no speed

If I am trying to read the speed with gpsctl -v it returns 0.000 but if I look into
cat /dev/gps (firmware 6) or cat /dev/ttyUSB2 I can see the speed value.
And I am getting all other values from gpsctl.

Do I have to set a setting somewehere or why does it output no value?

What sort of speed is the unit actually moving at? Some GPS units do put a block on slow speeds induced by changes in satellite geometry while stationary

I sat in the car and drove between 30 to 50 kilometer per hour.
I got the feeling I have to activate it somewhere, that gpsctl -v outputs a value.

As I said Im getting the speed in /dev/gps (firmware 6) or cat /dev/ttyUSB2 (firmware 7) and thats what is confusing me.
