I’m nearing the end of my current preloaded EE UK data sim. It was supposed to be data only, no sms messages or calls. In reality i found that i could send sms messages.
Since the mast i have been getting connected to got replaced Oct/Nov 25 my connection has deteriorated so i thought i’d try a sim from a different provider Three UK. I’m impressed and want to switch provider to Three UK when my current EE UK sim gets switched off.
My preloaded 2 month Three UK sim is data only, no sms messages. It can receive texts but not reply / send them. As more and more data only sims genuinely become data only would it be possible in future to send a command by text for example to reboot, get status or to request GPS data but choose to get a response either by text or by email instead!?
On an odd occasion when away from home i have had to send a command to reboot. The temporary Three UK sim allowes the text through and the RUT reboots. BUT getting that confirmation to reboot and then a few minuites later getting that text to say a reboot was successfull is comforting.
