Firmware 7.18 pulled

I saw that Firmware 7.18 was pulled due to a “critical bug”

  • What was the critical bug?
  • What should we do with devices already running 7.18?

Thank you for more information…

Greetings,

As of writing this, we don’t have any news regarding why the firmware was pulled out; however, we are actively communicating with our R&D and will provide more information once we have clear answers.

Regarding “what to do” - I would suggest waiting for the release 7.18.1, which should come out fairly quickly. If the firmware version is in some way hindering the functionality of your devices, you may opt for a downgrade.

M.

Okay. I will leave this feedback: when I upgraded one of my RUTX11’s to 7.18, its config was fully wiped and reset back to defaults (yes I did have the “keep settings” toggled on). So that was an unwelcome surprise. Luckily I do keep rigorous backups.

Not sure if that is the critical bug, or there are other issues.

Do you use memory expansion?

Hello,

This is not something that we were aware of, or got any reports of, even myself, I’ve upgraded around 10 of my devices from 7.16.x to 7.18 and all the settings were kept. This is potentially something else.

Now, coming back to the reasoning of the firmware removal, I was informed that the firmware has been removed due to incorrect operator selection under specific conditions.

M.

Do you use memory expansion?

No I don’t.

Hi, Luckman,

After a few more attempts, we were able to reproduce the issue with the configuration being wiped. The R&D are now actively looking into this. Will keep you updated.

M.

Ok that is “good” to hear, I feel a little less crazy now. Good luck to them on finding the cause.

This would be a nightmare for us, hopefully you can find this issue.

@luckman212 thank you very much for reporting this…
