Feedback on network setup: 1x OTD140 (Router) and 3x TSW200/TSW202 (Switches)

Hi everyone,

I am looking for feedback on some (concrete) aspects of my networking setup that I am planning to implement on a remote location (4G connection). The setup needs to integrate with existing (network) devices.

My drafted setup is depicted in subsequent diagram.

Some context on the individual parts

(1) 4G Router
Internet connection for entire location. I am planning to replace existing RUT950 with the OTD140 to a) being able to easily power the router via PoE and b) to get rid of cabling to properly place the 4G antenna.

(2) Main switch
This is the main switch that provides connectivity to existing network devices and also to built connection to switch (3) that is place in around 150-200m distance.
Network devices that will be connected (and partially powerd) to that switch are:

  • Teltonika OTD140 [powered via PoE]
  • Siemens SCALENCE Managed Switch [externally powered]
  • TP-Link PoE Switch [externally powered]
  • EEM-MA770 Meter [externally powered]
  • RaspberryPi [powered via PoE]
  • PoE Camera [powered via PoE]

(3) Switch
Mostly used to connect and power multiple PoE cameras.

(4) Switch
Mostly used to connect and power multiple PoE cameras.

I am curious about any feedback and especially about following things I’m not quite sure about and would like to hear about:

  1. Managed oder unmanaged switch for main switch [(2)]
I would like to keep the setup as simple as possible. However, reasons why I am considering the managed switch are a) to be able to control PoE for individual ports (see device list above) as I am not 100% sure if all devices are compliant with the standard (and only some actually require active PoE) as well as b) to have more control about security moving forward. What are your thoughts on those two aspects and the decision regarding and managed vs. unmanaged switch?
  2. Chaining the switches via fiber [(2), (3) and (4)]
Is this way of chaining the switches a valid approach and are there recommendations on the SFP modules that I would need for the planned switches?

Many thanks in advance for your feedback!
