We have an RUT-240 that can’t get a link light on the LAN port. The kernel log shows:
190000000.eth: Could not connect to PHY device. Deferring probe.
I’ve tried a factory reset and firmware update to the latest version. Am I right in thinking this is a hardware fault and we just have to replace the unit?
Indeed, it seems like the Ethernet switch within your device cannot be reached by the operating system. If you have tried reflashing the firmware using the bootloader method but it did not help, I suggest returning the device for warranty repair. If you’re only using 1 Ethernet port, then you could consider configuring the WAN port to act as LAN, but this could also have issues.
