Directional Antennas for RUT241

I want to put a directional antenna on my RUT241. I’m looking at this one:

The RUT241 has two mobile antenna ports. I understand that the one farthest from the wifi antenna port is the main, and the one closest to the wifi antenna is the aux.

Is it ok to get one of those yagi directional antennas and connect it to the the main mobile port, and then leave the included mobile antenna connected to the aux mobile port? The yagi would be run outside the building and pointed towards the nearest tower.

Is another option to purchase two yagi antennas and run them both outside, but install them at different orientations… one mounted the “normal” way and one mounted on its side… but both pointed at the tower?

I have some of the telktonika PR1KCL25 antennas and they have two cables… one for each mobile antenna port, but I haven’t seen any yagi antennas with two cables… is that also an option? Anyone know where to get such an antenna? In a scenario with a weak signal coming from a single tower, would I be better off using a single yagi vs. using the PR1KCL25 mounted outside?

I appreciate your time!

Hello,

If you are experiencing a weak signal from your cell tower, I recommend using a directional Yagi antenna. This type of antenna offers significantly better performance, with a gain of around 10 dB, compared to the standard antenna’s 2.5 dB. The Yagi’s directionality will help boost your signal strength much more effectively.

Since the RUT241 is an LTE Cat 4 device and does not support carrier aggregation, a single Yagi antenna should be sufficient for your needs.

Best regards,

Thanks!

So I would plug that yagi into the port farthest from the wifi antenna, right?

And then I will leave the other mobile antenna the RUT comes with plugged into the other port (the one closest to the wifi antenna), right?

Hey,

You’re right. The main antenna is farthest from the wifi antenna. As for leaving the other antennas connected, you might want to test it to see if it affects your mobile signal at all since the directional antenna is more sensitive.

Best regards,
