Device Switching RUT241 to TAP100 does not work

Hi,

we have installed a RUT241 with antenna and two TAP100 APs within a range of 30m on several sides of a shelving rack. As long as the RUT241 Wifi is switched on, all Clients connect to it and do not switch to the APs as long as there is any connection (no matter how bad/slow it is). If we switch off the RUT241 Wifi, the switching between the APs works without any issue, as soon as the device has stronger connection to one of the APs its switched to it.

Where do i find the Setting that the RUT241 “releases” the Clients when the AP has stronger connection?

Greetings!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

To address the issue you’re experiencing, could you confirm if the 2.4 GHz radios on your TAP100 APs are using the same channel as the RUT241’s Wi-Fi? Also, are the Forward Mesh Peer Traffic and RSSI Threshold options enabled on the TAP100 APs? These settings can improve roaming behavior by ensuring that clients disconnect from weaker signals.

Additionally, you can try enabling 802.11r Fast Transition on the RUT241 SSID. This feature can help devices transition more smoothly between access points when signal strength changes.

For further guidance, we have a wiki article on TAPxxx Wireless Mesh Configuration. It includes detailed instructions on setting up a mesh network with TAP APs and provides useful advice for optimizing roaming and network performance.

Feel free to reach out if have additional questions or need further assistance.

Best regards,
