I have a few TRB140’s that are in the field, but on one the SIM card subscription was ended.
After reactivation of the subscription, the TRB didn’t reactivate the connection, and restarting it didn’t seem to work either (according to the technician) so we got that device back to our office.
There, I tried to login to it using the default credentials (administered in our office system AND printed on the back of the device). It didn’t work…
I saw it online in the Teltonica RMS and was able to create another admin-group user and subsequently log into it. But I still are unable to log into it using the default credentials…
I don’t get it: these shouldn’t and can’t be changed - am I right?
In the device I am able to see the blocked login attempts (and I saw also the failed login attempt into RMS from when the tech was on site), but I am not able to reset the default credentials.
I have not yet reset the device (would rather not doing that, as all configuration has to be done again in that case).
Is there an option to reset (only) the default credentials when you have access to the device?
Default credentials printed on device work only when device is reset to factory defaults. And once you reset your device, you are forced to change those credentials to something else.
It was set up a few years back, so I am not 100% sure about the procedure back then, but they meticulously administrated all relevant data for all installed devices.
And an updated, new, or added user and password is not among that data that I have available now.
So I don’t know there was a mandatory change in either user or password…
But given the situation (the other devices will have the same settings, and so I don’t have a valid user to log into these too): is there an option to see the users defined on the devices and maybe change their passwords?
Someone could have updated the password, but forgot to update documentation. Device could have been replaced. Who knows. Mistakes happen no matter how meticulous you are. Lets wait for someone from Teltonika to answer. Im sure they can help.
There is no option to reset only the device credentials. To restore the default login credentials, the device must be reset to factory default settings, which will erase all existing configuration.
Should I be able to login into the device using the default credentials (as printed on its sticker)?
Or is there indeed a mandatory change when you first log into the device?
If you’re still stuck, try entering the password you’re got with the CAPS LOCK on, and then enter the pw as though it were off. Worth a try, as the original password might have been reset with the CAPS inadvertently set to ON. Worth a try ….
OK, this helped as we tried to log in using SSH, but that still didn’t work.
So the password really must have been changed, but also not recorded with the devices, as we do nowadays.
And then someone remembered that back in the days we used a standard password for this type of equipment, as we used to hire independent contractors also. They not only needed to gain access, but we didn’t want to expose our passphrases we use to create passwords to every man we hired…
That “standard“ password worked, so we now have access again to all of the TRB’s in the field.
