CTS FWR5 router to TSW202

I have CTS FWR5 as a fiber router. Now, previously FWR5 had wired connections to every room in our house, but it lacked the PoE. Seller said that TSW202 would do it for our use case.

So, should I wire this and how? From FWR5 LAN → TSW202 LAN (no SFP?) Should I have to configure this somehow? I tried the given configuration, but no internet connection.

End goal: PoE to every room + mesh wifi routers to 3 rooms. (poe compatible)

Hello,

Regarding Internet connectivity:

If the FWR5 router is configured correctly and the DHCP server is enabled, the TSW202 switch, operating with its default settings, should receive DHCP settings for its connectivity and facilitate layer 2 switching. This ensures that all devices connected to the switch receive DHCP settings from the router, allowing access to the Internet.

In other words, from the TSW202 side, it should function as plug-and-play by default.
Follow this quickstart guide:
https://wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/QSG_TSW202#:~:text=Video%20Quick%20Start%20Guide.%20Need%20some
If you followed this quickstart guide, you should notice that static IP was used on the end device to access the TSW202 web user interface, meaning that if you leave those static settings, your device will not get DHCP settings, resulting in no internet connectivity.

Additionally, I would like to give recommendations regarding the PoE:

  1. Switch can feed PoE on Port 1-8 (RJ45 Ethernet ports)
  2. Alternative B allows power to be injected through specific pins (typically Pins 1, 2, 3, and 6) while enabling data transmission over the same pairs. Please note that only devices that support the Alternative B standard can be powered with this.
  3. One port can provide a maximum of 30W of power
  4. All 8 ports give a total of 240W of power

  1. To facilitate PoE for the connected devices, a minimum of 44VDC voltage is mandatory, therefore compatible power supply is needed.

You can find those on our accessories page:

Consider these Order codes depending on your location:
• PR320EUA – with EU connector
• PR320UKA – with UK connector

PoE is usually enabled by default, in other words, Plug-n-play. If your PoE devices support Active PoE Alternative B and require up to 30W of power, all should be fine.

I advise you to follow your WiFi mesh routers’ PoE specifications and check compatibility with the TSW202 switch.

Again, from the switch side, everything should work by default, unless some very specific configurations like VLANs are required.

Kind Regards,
Lukas
