Connect to device remotely

Hi,

I’m using the quick VPN hub feature of RUT241 routers to remotely access devices in the field. The devices have fixed IP addresses and the normal way of connecting to them in person is to plug your laptop into their ethernet port and connect through your browser by typing in the IP. I have had some success in connecting to them via the VPNs but its inconsistent. I imagine there is some step or trick I’m missing to make it work consistently. What I’m finding is that upon connecting to the VPN I won’t be able to connect to the devices straight away, but if I leave the connection sit for a while (not sure how long exactly) something will refresh or some setting will change itself and then I’ll be able to connect. I could sit there trying to connect with the IP address for 10/15 minutes to no avail and then suddenly it’ll just work.

Would someone be able to shed some light on why this is happening?

Hello,

Could you try enabling masquerading for the LAN zone in Network → Firewall → Zones settings to see if that improves the consistency of your connections?

Additionally, have you tried using RMS VPN Hub instead, as it provides a more stable and reliable remote access solution?
