Connect a TRM240 modem to an ASUS router

I’ve got a TRM 240 which I want to use as fail over (secondary WAN) together with an ASUS RT AX86U router. The problem is that I get the the USB-link (the green Net-LED is on) when connect the TRM to the router, but it’s not recognized by the router. The failover never happens. I think the issues are on the the level above the USB-protocol. I’ve learned that the TRM240 works best with the RNDIS-protocol, while ASUS likes ECM or NCM better. Does the TRM support any of these protocols? Is there a possibility to configure things like this in any way? Or, is there a another/better solution of this problem?

Basic config with “USB adapter” as AUTO. (Predefined USB-adapters doesn’t appear to work either. No Teltonika devices are present)

Greetings, @Guran,

Welcome to Teltonika Community!

After reviewing the TRM240 documentation, I can confirm that the device operates using the NDIS driver. However, ECM and NCM drivers are not supported by the TRM240, which is why your ASUS router does not recognize it as a network device. It may be possible to make it work if your ASUS router supports installing RNDIS drivers.

Since the TRM240 is a mobile modem, it does not run a fully operational OS, and we are unable to provide custom-built features for it.

Additionally, you could try (although it may be a long shot) connecting the TRM240 to a different router or networking device that supports the RNDIS protocol and then use that device as a secondary WAN interface for your ASUS router. However, I cannot guarantee that this setup will function as intended.

I hope this answers your questions.

V.

Hi Vilius!

Thank’s for your reply.

I’ve got it confirmed from ASUS that my router supports the NCM-protocol. Do Teltonika sell some other type of modem (similar to the TRM240) but which supports NCM?

Greetings,

Thank you for your message,

After reviewing datasheets of our modems (TRM series), I can confirm that none of the modems currently has NCM support.

I hope this answers your question,
