Configuration Help Needed for TRB143 with Fritzbox and Public IP

Hello,

I have a TRB143 device installed, and I need assistance with sending data received from M-Bus via a public IP. Currently, I don’t have a SIM card with a public IP, so the TRB143 is connected to my Fritzbox, which does have a public IP.

Problem Description:

  1. The TRB143 is not reachable from the Fritzbox or the internet.
  2. I am unsure if the TRB143 can function as a client within my network rather than acting as a router.

Current Setup:

  • Device: TRB143
  • Firmware Version: TRB1_R_00.07.08
  • Connection: TRB143 connected to Fritzbox (which has a public IP)
  • Local Network Configuration: No other devices using the same IP address as the TRB143

Objective: I aim to make the TRB143 accessible via the public IP provided by the Fritzbox. Eventually, I plan to publish the M-Bus data over MQTT.

Questions:

  1. Is the TRB143 capable of functioning solely as a client within a network instead of operating as a router?
  2. If yes, what specific settings do I need to change to achieve this configuration?

Steps Taken So Far:

  • Configured the TRB143 with a static IP in the same subnet as the Fritzbox.
  • Attempted to set up port forwarding on the Fritzbox to the TRB143’s IP address.
  • Ensured the latest firmware is installed.

Despite these efforts, the device remains unreachable. Any guidance on the necessary configuration changes or steps I might have missed would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Hi Mattes_ETA,
this seems to me to be a networking problem.
Thus just asking for the basics…

  • did you set the default gateway on the TRB143 correctly
  • can you reach the Fritzbox from the TRB (via ping)
  • can you reach the TRB from the Fritzbox (don’t know if the fritzbox has a ping function)
  • did you try to set a port forwarding for http (port 80) to the TRB in the Fritzbox
(a little bit dangerous, so use a strong password on the TRB) and see if this works
  • did you use port 502 TCP in the forwarding rule

Hi,

I managed to resolve the issue with the default gateway and settings. The device is now reachable from the Fritzbox and is correctly visible with an IP address in the Fritzbox interface.

However, I’m having trouble setting up port forwarding. In the TRB, I can’t seem to locate the Public IP, so I manually added it, but I’m not sure if that’s the correct approach.

Also, I didn’t use the 502 TCP forwarding rule

Hi Mattes_ETA,
the TRB doesn’t need to know the public IP. The FritzBox does and it also
does the DNAT for port forwarding. Without port forwarding you won’t get
access.

I fixed it myself, got a Public IP SIM-Card where it works now!
