Cellular Data Bridge/Passthrough to Third Party Firewall

Hello, community.

I’m based in the UK and looking for a 5G cellular router with Multiple SIM and eSIM.

I need the router to be able to passthrough or bridge the cellular connection (IP Address) to a (local) Third Party firewall, e.g. OPNSense, to support a SD-WAN configuration.

The above will be the primary use, but the device will also be used in the field, so I do want a router and not simply a modem.

I also want to be able to use a “normal” data sim, in that i.e. I do not want the expense of a “Fixed/Public IP SIM”, to achieve this (I have a 5G cellular router at the moment, but it will only passthrough the connection reliably with a Fixed IP SIM). They have not been too helpful thus far, so I am looking elsewhere for a solution.

Hopefully the devices on offer, enable upload of saved configurations, easily - to simplify the switchover between the two scenario’s.

I have seen the RUTM30, which seems like it may be perfect for this purpose, or possibly the RUTC50, although that spec may be a little too excessive for my requirements.

If anybody has any input, before I make a purchase, that would be much appreciated.

Faithfully, noggin.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for showing interest in Teltonika products!

In your use case, as you require to have 5G and eSIM functionality in the same device, the RUTM30 would be the device you are after.

RUTC50 device has an option to be used with eSIMs too, however you would need to know the product code of the device that you are buying, to know if it will have this functionality. If you go to device product page RUTC50 Powerful 5G Router with Wi-Fi 6 for Edge Applications

Scroll down, and go to Ordering section, you can see which product code will have eSIM hardware installed.

One more device to consider would be OTD500. However this router is more meant for outdoor usage. It does still have same functionalities as below.

Supports dual SIM + eSIM

Supports bridge/passthrough mode to pass IP to OPNSense or other firewall

Configuration backup and restore supported via RutOS and RMS

Arturas
