Can't SSH into RUT200 via ZeroTier

Hello,

I’m trying to connect to my RUT200 via SSH using its ZeroTier IP. The router is online in the ZeroTier network, and I can see both the router and one PC connected.

The router has default settings, and the ZeroTier setup is also using defaults — I just created a network and added the clients. SSH works over LAN, but not over the ZeroTier IP.

Can you advise how to enable SSH access via ZeroTier?

Thanks

Hello,

Apologies for the delay. Could you please check if the RUT200’s ZeroTier IP can be successfully pinged from your PC? Typically, for SSH access over ZeroTier, there shouldn’t be a need for any additional configuration like custom routes, it should work out of the box once both devices are in the same ZeroTier network.

I’d also recommend reviewing our ZeroTier setup guide here for reference:

It might offer some useful insights for your configuration.

Additionally, please make sure there’s a managed route set in your ZeroTier network’s Advanced settings tab.

Best regards,

Hey, yes you are right. It worked out of the box (I just needed to enable SSH). For some strange reason my PC takes ages to resolve ZeroTier IPs. I tried today from my Android Tablet (also part of ZeroTier newtork) and it resolves everything instantly. I’ll investigate why is that. Good thing is that it works natively.

Hello,

Thank you for the update. I actually ran into a similar issue myself, my PC either couldn’t get a released ZeroTier IP at all, or it was stuck on a 169.X.X.X address. The only thing that helped in my case was changing the ZeroTier network’s auto-assigned IP range pool.

Best regards,

Good idea, I’ll try with different IP pool.
