Cannot ping the plc

Hi,

We’re using a RUT950 router to connect to a PLC via OpenVPN. The VPN connection establishes successfully, but I can’t ping the router or the connected PLC. I’ve tried adding traffic rules, but it didn’t resolve the issue.

What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

Hi there,

Could you confirm that Masquerading is enabled for the firewall zones under Network → Firewall → Zones? (Will be in General Settings for older firmwares)

Refer to this post for more information: RUT906 LAN Access from another subnet on a static route - #5 by MatasR

Masquerading will do a kind of NATting where it’ll translate the traffic going to the PLC so it looks like it’s coming directly from the router itself (basically LAN-To-LAN).

Let me know if this helps,
M.

If your OpenVPN tunnel is established successfully on the Teltonika RUT950, but you cannot ping the router or the PLC, then the issue likely lies in routing, firewall rules, or VPN configuration (including IP forwarding/NAT).

I still get the same problem even though I enabled the masquerading

Hello,

Thank you,

Issue has been resolved by upgrading to the latest legacy and then to the latest standard firmware version.

Regards,
M.
