Can i replace my 5G modem with a Teltonika TRB500 Industrial 5G Router

Hi,
I’m trying to find a way to remote into devices on my network over my Public IP, (currently I’m trying DDNS).

My internet router is a Telstra 5G Modem 2.
Based on whats in the UI it uses Mobile WAN and possibly binds to the device, I’m not sure.

Features on Mobile WAN are limited but if I swap to Ethernet WAN, suddenly I have DDNS and even a bridged mode option. Switching to Ethernet WAN breaks my internet.
So, I would say it has to be on Mobile WAN.

The only thing connect to the Telstra modem is a Unifi UX Gateway, the Telstra modem plugs into the WAN port and gives all my devices internet.
Unifi UX Gateway is where I’ve setup DDNS through Dyndns but i cannot hit my public IP at all, even with ICMP reply echo set on my firewall rules.
I also cannot hit the hostename i setup in dyndns and added to the Unifi UX Gateway.

At this stage I don’t know if it’s my ISP or this Telstra modem.

I’m here because i want to know if swapping to a Teltonika TRB500 Industrial 5G Router will a) connect to the internet with the 5G sim that’s in the Telstra 5G Modem 2 and b) allow me to put it in bridge mode to passthrough internet to the WAN port on my Unifi UX.

I think i know the answer, its the ISP but i wanted to post this here to see if anyone has any ideas or workarounds.
I just didn’t want to spend a heap on the Teltonika TRB500 Industrial 5G Router and then be no further along with a solution.

Hi @StigAdmin,

to me your setup is a bit unclear, maybe you should upload a drawing.

BUT first check with your ISP that you really do have a public (routable) IP
address and that you are not behind a CGNAT.

Hi, @StigAdmin! Hope you’re doing good. I’m deeply sorry it took so long to get your thread answered.

I agree with @timelapsesystems considerations. The situation is not entirely clear, and a rough block diagram would be beneficial to ensure all variables are adequately considered.

Additionally, I would like to highlight that in some countries, CG-NAT is the standard for mobile connections and is often mistaken for Public IPs. Please verify this with your ISP.

The first month is free for each device purchased. RMS facilitates remote access to LAN devices, making it straightforward to manage and troubleshoot networked devices from any location and no Public IP is needed. The platform is designed to be user-friendly, offering an intuitive interface for device management, remote connection setup, and detailed analytics access.

Best Regards.
