Can connect to RutX50 through vpn but can't access resources on its network

Hi. I have a single RUTX50 with a NAS connected and just want to access the Rutx WebUI and the NAS webui remotely. I have a VPN hub set up which has the Rutx and my username as clients. I added a route on the Routes tab by selecting my Rutx and scanning, which found the NAS.
I have the LAN and WAN toggles enabled for the Rutx on the Routes tab, under clients.
I can connect my laptop to the vpn either using the RMS VPN client, or by downloading the OpenVPN profile and connecting.
Once I am connected I expect to be able to connect to the RutX webUI, or the NAS webUI in my browser by inputing their local (to the RutX network) ip addresses but neither will connect.
If I ping the RutX ip 192.168.1.1 in cmd then it provides a reply from a different IP address (possibly the celluar ip) and says Destnation net unreachable. Pinging the NAS doesn’t connect to anything and times out.
I don’t have much networking knowledge so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Good afternoon,

Firstly to clarify, from the RMS side, to confirm, do you have RMS resources? For your task you would need to have both, credits, for a separate access of the router, and Data, for RMS vpn hubs utilization. You can find your available resources by going to RMS Administration → Companies → View company details.

You would also need to have the newest firmware in our device, and, after you create the RMS VPN hub, you would need to restart it.

Can you also advise whether you are able to reach the router itself via rms? If you go to RMS Management → Devices, try to access the device’s webui. Slightly older instructions, but they still apply. Under Actions, click on Device WEBUI. How to reach a router's WebUI from RMS? - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Lastly, are you able to access the end device by itself? Without involving RMS, or our router?

Please also clarify what type of a device NAS is, does it have it’s own web interface? how is it connected to our router.

Please also advise if you are following any guides. Specifically this guide :

Arturas

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have already followed the guide at the bottom of your message. It would seem the issue is that I don’t have any VPN data. I bought a credit for RMS management from Solwise in the UK but they don’t seem to sell data. I would like to try it with 2GB which I believe you should be able to buy (rather than committing to the 10yr 150GB) but Solwise don’t seem to sell either option. Just the RMS credits. I thought I read that you can change credits in to data, is that true?

I can reach the router via rms, and I can connect to its webui through rms.
The router is a Synology Diskstation, and i can access through Synologies Quick Connect directly over the internet. It is plugged in to one of the RutX ethernet ports. I was hoping though to access it directly through VPN rather go through Synology servers, which I believe is possible but I now know I need VPN data.

As I don’t really need the RMS management services (there’s only me and one router) can i get VPN data and then access my RutX WebUI through the VPN, as well as my local resources, like my NAS (or anything else I put on there eg a video camera)?

The router will always be switched on but I’d like to keep other things turned off and only turn on by WOL when needed.

thanks

Hi there,

That is right, if you do not have RMS data, then the RMS vpn hubs will not work. Firstly obtain a credit, add it to your account. You can do so by pasting the code you received for the resource, in RMS, in top right where you can see your email username, click on that, and on the dropdown menu click activate code. After you do, that resource will be in your RMS.

Then in RMS click on Administration → Companies → View company details. In that screen, next to remaining company data, you can see an add button. There you can convert your credits to data.

A couple of things to note:

After you add data to your account, please restart the created vpn hub. If issues still, delete it and create the vpn hub instance again.

When you add the credit to the account, if you have any devices without credits, and in view company details, if the service, monitoring, or auto extend are switched on, they will take that credit.

Arturas

That’s great. Thank you
