Bonding two Starlink with RUTX12 remote site

Hi
I have two starlink units. One on my house and one on my work vehicle. When I return from work I want to utilse the one on my vehicle and seamlessly bond it with the one mounted on my roof for greater bandwidth and resiliency as I do a lot of streaming ie Zoom calls remotely. Im thinking of using the RUTX12 with the Bondix SANE software. I imagine I will have a wifi connection on the garage (No my vehicle is not parked inside it :joy:) And it will connect (LAN side) to my vehicle mounted starlink and to the RUTX12 router on my home network. Can I utilise a LAN port as an additional WAN on the RUTX12 and are there any other important configuration issues I should be aware of?

Hello,

Yes, you can configure all ports as you prefer. The WAN port can be set up to function as a LAN port, and vice versa, in your situation, any LAN port can be designated to work as a WAN port.

To do this, you’ll need to set up a new WAN interface and assign your chosen port to it. Here are the instructions from our wiki: LAN as WAN setup guide.

Best regards,

Thanks so much for this. I was able to get some assistance from the Bondix partner in QLD. I’m now getting a consistent 180-200mbps with my set-up. Can I ask if Teltonika have any plans to release a device where I can bond two links to get up to 500mbps. Signl (bondix partner) told me the maximum I can likely get via the RUTX12 bonded is around 200mbps. Is this correct?

Hello,

I’m not entirely certain about the 200Mb/s speed, as the RUTX12 CAT6 modem theoretically can deliver up to 300Mb/s. However, it’s important to note that we don’t produce bonding solutions ourselves; we only offer load balancing. For inquiries about achieving better bonding speeds, I recommend reaching out to Bondix.

Kind regards,

Hi Marijus,
Yes I have done that and they have said that the bonding does produce some processing over head which is why you need a more powerful router (CPU and RAM) to provide higher bonded speeds, hence my question about whether a more powerful router from Teltonika is in the pipeline.
Thanks

Hello,

We’re constantly working on improving our product lineup by introducing newer and more powerful devices. Currently, our most powerful device is the RUTX50. However, we don’t have any updates yet on even more powerful devices, particularly ones with two modems.

Best regards,
