We have 40 vehicles with teltonika RUT95620XXX.
All teltonika have got a SIM with roaming.
We have a private APN.
Vehicules are driving between 2 country Switzerland and France.
There are no more 3G since december 2025.
What is the best practice to have the better switching between the Country operators and to minimize impact of low signal zones ?
Current configuration :

Since the 3G network sunset, relying solely on 4G LTE means the routers no longer have a legacy fallback at the border. With a single roaming SIM on a private APN (my.apn.com), the connection drops you are experiencing during transitions are caused by the modem clinging to a weak signal from the departing country.
To optimize the switching behavior between France and Switzerland and minimize downtime, we recommend applying the following best practices to your configuration profile:
- Enable Low Signal Reconnect: Switch this from Off to On.
- Set the signal threshold to -100 dBm (RSRP) and the timeout to 60 seconds. This forces the router to proactively drop a dying connection at the border and immediately scan for the next available operator.
- Go to System → Maintenance →Auto Reboot, click on edit and configure it as shown in the screenshot below.
When roaming on a private APN, a modem will often successfully register on a partner network but fail to establish the data session. Setting a rule to ping your private gateway or a stable DNS (like 8.8.8.8) ensures the mobile interface automatically restarts if data stops flowing.
- Keep Network Selection on “Auto”: Your current setting is correct. Forcing manual network selection on a cross-border route will completely break connectivity once the vehicle leaves that specific operator’s coverage zone.

Firmware Version: What specific firmware version are the routers currently running?
Currently it’s the 7.22.3 firmware who are deployed.

Drop Duration: When the vehicles cross the border, how long does the downtime typically last before it recovers?
It depend it could be immediatly and work perfectly or it could be the blackout during the wall time vehicules is not under Swiss provider.

French Roaming Partner of Swisscom are : Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free Mobile**.**
