I am using RUT955 in Canada with a Bell SIM card. I noticed that the modem connects to APN “pda.bell.ca”. This setup works but since the APN is meant to be used with mobile phones, it produces high costs.
I’ve checked the apn.db, but couldn’t find the APN you need. We update our APN database based on Google’s APN database. This means that if the required APN is not in Google’s database, it won’t be in ours either. As soon as it gets added to the Google APN database, we will update our database accordingly. However, this can be solved temporary by disabling AUTO APN and manually entering your APN or selecting one from the carrier-provided options. To do this on our routers, navigate to Network → WAN and click “Edit” for the selected mobile WAN interface.
thanks for the quick and detailed answer. Just one question for my understanding: As far as I understood, the APN is delivered over the air by teltonika database. This database is more or less a copy from google’s database. Do you update your database cyclically?
The workaround with the manual APN worked for me. I will inform Bell that they have to change the carrier or trigger an update of the Google database.
While it might not be an exact replica of Google’s, we consider it a well-known and reliable APN database. The database is regularly updated, but I can’t specify the exact time between updates. However, it typically coincides with firmware updates, especially major ones like going from 7.5 to 7.6.
