Astronomic event not functioning RUT956

I’m attempting to configure an event using the event juggler to control power to a camera based on daylight hours and although I believe it is set up correctly, the event fails to trigger. Here is how I have it set up:

  • Time is set by our network NTP server and device time/date are correct
  • The event has been left running for several days with no trigger, also confirming it is not just a timing issue.
  • The cellular connection is on a custom apn that never hits public internet, which I’m starting to suspect might be part of the issue.
  • As a test I created a time event that controls power to the camera at a set time and it functions properly and at the expected time, so I know that the i/o is configured correctly and there is no time issue.
  • event log does not show any event triggers

Am I missing something?

As an aside, I notice when I set the time zone to the local time, save, and navigate away, the time zone will revert to gmt +#. It seems like this won’t take daylight savings time into account. Is there a solution for this?

Hi,

Is the action triggers but not at the good time ? Notably does it trigger when it is night ?

Civil / Nautical / Astronomical seems refers to twilights when the sun is below the horizon by 6° (civil), 12° (nautical) and 18° for astronomical ( Twilight - Wikipedia ).

At some places, some nights don’t have all the events because the sun is not so below horizon. It is not only on polar regions, in London on Summer Equinox you don’t have astronomical twilight.

I don’t know what “Official” refers but it is possible it is the sun rise/sets. Is is probable you don’t have 100% accuracy : does it take account the atmospheric diffraction ? The sun apparent diameter is ~30 arcminutes (= 0,5°) does it take first light as it should be ?

Currently in my location astronomical twilight is around 9:30 pm, so it should still trigger. I have also tested the event on civil and nautical twilight, which are both earlier and have not had a trigger in either configuration.

As an additional data point I set up another RUT956 with identical configuration except this one was capable of reaching the internet. The event still failed to trigger. Unless I’m missing something key, I don’t think the astronomical time event is functional.

Greetings,

Apologies for the delayed response.

What firmware version are you running on your device?

I have tested out the Astronomical time and it works fine on my device.

Could you please login to the device’s CLI (instructions here: Command Line Interfaces - Teltonika Networks Wiki)

And run this command
logread | grep event_juggler

Do you see any logs like shown in the picture?

Could you please elaborate on this? Do you mean that when you set the Time zone under System → Administration → Date&Time to a specific City, it reverts to GMT+ after you leave the page?

  1. fw is RUT9M_R_00.07.20.3
  2. I have watched the event logs in CLI and have not seen any event triggers for the astronomical time event.
  3. The time zone switching back to GMT issue appears to be during configuration only. I just checked it again and it is the correct time zone based on my city.
  4. I submitted that trouble ticket form.
