After upgrading RUT router to newest FW, things are getting blocked

Hello

After updating the firmware across different routers (RUT950 & RUT200) to the newest firmware ( [
RUT9_R_00.07.06.13) everything was fine - All the Shelly devices worked great and sends data as normal. But when I tried to update the firmware on the Shelly devices it’s not possible.

I’ve been thru the firewall settings and nothing has changed. I do know that Shelly uses some ports and they seems to be open.

If I use another “old” router with a older version installed, then If works, but I can’t see any differences in the settings (all though it’s bit difficult since the FW version are quite differen)

I really have no clue what to do and it’s all based on a software update

Hello,

Shelly requires and needs you to ensure that the following ports are open in your network for everything to work correctly: 6010, 6011, 6012, 6020, 6021, 6022, 6110, 6113, 5353, and 443.

Please create a new rule in your firewall settings to allow access to these ports. Below is some information on configuring your firewall: Firewall traffic rules - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Best regards,

Why??

It works on the old firmware - What’s the difference?

Hello,

When you update your device’s firmware, some changes might cause unexpected reactions, even if they seem minor. This is especially true if you upgraded while choosing to “keep settings.” If you are still experiencing issues, try resetting the device and configuring it again from scratch.

Best regards,

To sum the issue up…

On a RUT950 FW RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.5 which has reset completely - Shelly works and i can update the firmware on Shelly

On a RUT950 FW RUT9XX_R_00.07.06.13 which has reset completely - Shelly works but it can’t update the firmware.

On a brand new RUT200 FW RUT9XX_R_00.07.06.3 - Shelly works but it can’t update the firmware.

On a brand new RUT200 FW RUT9XX_R_00.07.08 - Shelly works but it can’t update the firmware.

Can I ping all the ports from the lan to portquiz.net - Yes

Have i made any alterations to the Firewall - No

Does it work if I open the required ports - No.

Does it work with port forwarding - No

Remember, the Shelly devices work, transmits data & can be controlled on all the scenarios, but it’s ONLY possible to update the firmware on Shelly if they are connected to a router with legacy firmware. Why? after installing 100’s of these units on every kind of network it all off a sudden won’t work on Teltonika devices with a newer firmware…

Hello,

You mentioned that your Shelly device works but can’t be updated. According to Google, this is a common issue with Shelly devices:

Please reach out to Shelly support for further assistance.

Best regards,

But then explain why it’s possible to update Shelly on FW RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.5?

If I connect the devices to a RUT 950 with an unedited RUT9XX_R_00.06.09.5 then it works.

If I connect the devices to everything else than a RUT200, then it works.

There is something in the new firmware that’s blocking the Shelly update functionality.

Btw. The then articles you linked is not relevant in this case since it’s neither Gen 1 og BLU devices.

Hello,

Legacy firmware is behind on a lot of security updates and implementations. With newer firmware security implementations are a lot stricter.

Best regards,

That is of course just fine and great

But I have no idea where to look the must be something in the new firmware that’s fundamentally new?

Yes the Shellys are on a really old firmware, and probably that’s also adding to the problem.

Hi,

It looks like we still need to understand why this differs from the legacy firmware. Could you please generate TCPDump files for both the Legacy and 07.xx firmware versions while you’re upgrading the Shelly firmware?

Best regards,

I can’t really upload any attachment since I’m a new user :frowning:

Hello,

I have received all your form submissions, but there seems to be an issue as there are no credentials to respond to. Could you please try filling out the “Contact Us” form on Teltonika Networks and mention this issue? This way, we will be able to access your generated files.

Hello,

Thank you for sending the TCPDumps. We will review the data and let you know what we find.
