Admin Password Reset RUTX50

Hi all yes rookie mistake.

I have forgotten the admin password.

I know the only way to reset without a RMS account is a factory reset, as I have the configuration backed up im ok with doing this.

But as soon as I reload the config file for the the restore it brings back the forgotten password as well.

Anyway to restore from back up and not chnage the admin password back or export the bulk of the config infomation to save hours on resetting up my router?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

I didn’t quite understand your request fully and I’d like to clarify:
Are you referring to forgetting the default admin password, located on the back of the device or the current admin password set on the device?

Regarding your question about configuration restoration, it is not possible to restore the default admin password when uploading a backup. In your case, a factory reset would be required to reset the admin credentials.

For more information on recovery options for the RUTX50, you can refer to this article: RUTX50 Device Recovery Options.

Please feel free to reach out if you need further assistance or have any additional questions.

Best regards,

Thanks, I thought I saved my updated admin password to my password locker, but appears I didnt.

I understand the only way to fix my mistake is to do a factory reset and start again.

But as I did perform a Config backup and saved to my PC is there anyway to use the backup file to save starting from stratch again?

Hello,
You need to hack your backup file: extract the tar file, remove etc/passwd and etc/shadow, and retar it:

mkdir tmp; cd tmp
tar xvfz ../backup-???.tar.gz
rm etc/passwd etc/shadow
tar cfz ../newbackup-xxx.tar.gz .

and do the restore from this file.

thank you will give it a try
