Accessing third-party devices using RMS

Hello,

We are currently in the process of integrating the RMS and are actively gathering information about its services. Our primary focus is understanding the scope of RMS functionalities, specifically in accessing network devices.

Our understanding thus far indicates that for access via RMS Connect, the devices in question must be directly linked to the Teltonika router. However, we came across a particular use case—“REMOTE MANAGEMENT OF MANUFACTURING NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE” (Remote management of manufacturing network infrastructure)—where it suggests the possibility of accessing devices not directly connected to the Teltonika router but within the same network.

Hence, our query is twofold:

If third-party devices are linked to distinct switches (non-Teltonika network switches) that, in turn, connect to the Teltonika router, can we still access these devices using RMS Connect or RMS VPN?

In the event we utilize RMS VPN to access our devices, once the VPN setup is established, are we able to employ the same protocols available in RMS Connect to interact with the selected devices?

Your clarification on these matters would greatly assist us in our integration process.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards,

Hello,

The RMS connect and RMS VPN allows you to access the devices on the LAN network of your Teltonika Networks routers. This means that if there are switches between your LAN devices and a Teltonika Networks routers, you will still be able to access those devices bacause they are on the LAN network of your Teltonika router.

RMS VPN Hubs are used to create a VPN connection to your Teltonika routers. This is a better option when you want to have a persistent connection to your devices. RMS connect on the other hand, is usually used when you need to connect to the devices occasionally. This way, you can generate a link for, say 1 hour, and use it to access your devices. This is also useful when you want to share the link with somebody else.

In your case, I would suggest starting with our YouTube channel here where you can find a lot of information and examples. We also have a wiki page for RMS here.

Kind Regards,
