3 out of 11 clients unauthorised by 802.1x

Hi, I have this weird problem upon upgrading to the latest firmware (RUT2M_R_00.07.15) on my RUT241 with 3 out of 11 wifi clients getting disconnected and not being able to use the wifi connection until I reboot the router. Once i reboot they will connect fine for 12 hours (lease time is 18 hours and these 3 wifi clients are on a dhcp static lease) and after the 12 hours they will be disconnected the below showing up in the System Logs (mac address masked for security reasons). This is continuous and does not stop… All other 8 clients are working fine in the meantime.

Hello,

To properly troubleshoot and understand this situation, could you please clarify and check a few points:

  1. Did this issue start appearing only after upgrading to firmware version 7.15?
  2. In Network → Wireless → SSID, Advanced Settings for your WiFi AP, try increasing the Time interval for rekeying GTK to 65535 seconds and see if this improves stability for those clients.
  3. Have you tried decreasing the DHCP lease time to, e.g., 6 or 12 hours?
  4. As I understand from the description, you have static leases configured for those 3 clients, right?
  5. Could you confirm the exact WPA mode you’re currently using (WPA2-PSK, WPA3, or mixed)? Also, were there any recent adjustments made in Wireless Advanced/Additional settings?

Thank you for your collaboration and time.

Best regards,

Hi Martynas,

  1. Yes this never happened with the stock firmware that came with it. As soon as I upgraded both to 7.14.X and then to 7.15 i have been facing this issue.

  2. I have tried setting the Time Interval setting to 65535 and unfortunately got more client disconnections - out of 11 clients, 8 clients got disconnected. So i turned it back to blank and went back to the original 3 clients only disconnected.

  3. This happened with the standard 12 hours dhcp lease time, and since the 3 devices connect successfully upon router reboot for 12 hours then get stuck in this loop, i shifted to 18 hours. Should i try something less than 12 hours? Even if they have dhcp static leases?

  4. Yes all 11 clients including the 3 clients facing this issue have static dhcp leases.

  5. I’m currently using mixed WPA2/WPA3 but i also tried WPA2 only but issue was not resolved. No other adjustments made in wireless advanced/additional settings.

Regards,
Gilbert

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed follow-up and testing efforts.

If the issue still persists, for testing purposes, could you try checking whether the issue occurs when using DHCP without static leases for those specific devices?

In case the issue continues and further assistance is needed, to support you effectively, we’ll need to continue this process privately. You should find a support request form in the inbox of the email address you used for your forum registration. Kindly fill out the form and reference Ticket ID: 14116 when submitting it. Once we receive your submission, we’ll reach out to you directly via email to investigate the issue in detail and work towards a solution.

Best regards,

Hi Martynas,

The issue started with DHCP without a static lease, then I tried to reserve a lease in an attempt to stop them getting de-authenticated. However was unsuccessful.

I will submit the form requested to continue this offline. If we find a solution we will post it here for everybody’s benefit. In the meantime I will be replacing this wifi devices with another version that does not exhibit the problem as I cannot afford to have these offline for much longer. I will keep them connected for testing purposes only until we find a solution.

Regards,
Gilbert
