In your case there is no reason to switch. The ubus call are used just for a corner case ie if the DNS are restricted to the wg tunnel and it is down the wg set … command will obviously fail.

Same in my case, RUTC50 in my camper must keep the S2S VPN Tunnel to my Fritzbox.

I think you have to add:

chmod +x /etc/opt/wireguard_watchdog

In a camper as well, so will stick to the non bus config.
