Rut955 rut9_r_00.07.06.16 Question concerning Event Reporting

Hello Marija,

so, now I have all the information together. Let me start my explanation with a document, the RFC5322 “Internet Message Format” from rfc-editor.org, a document that you are surely familiar with. There I refer to chapter 2.3 “Body” on page 9. I would like to refer to the statements in this chapter.

There it says that CR and LF or carriage return and line feed or HEX 0D and 0A must only occur together as CRLF.

Teltonika RUT955
You explained to me that event messages in RUT955 are sent with CURL. According to a statement by a member of the Teltonika community, the control character %nl in emails sent with CURL is simply replaced with one character, LF or line feed or HEX 0A. This clearly is in contradiction to the RFC.

Posteo Email provider
I have carried out extensive tests with CURL using the Posteo outgoing mail server and found that when using the character string HEX 0D0A the test email is sent correctly, but when using only the single character HEX 0A the sending of the test email is aborted with an error message and a note about the missing CR (HEX 0D). The Posteo outgoing mail server therefore checks very strictly the correctness of the mail body as described in RFC5322. I had this fact confirmed by my provider.

Telekom Email provider
The tests with CURL and the Telekom outgoing mail server showed that the correctness of the mail body is obviously not checked as strictly as is the case with the Posteo outgoing mail server. Therefore these test emails are sent with both 0D0A and 0A.

Zoho Email provider
Teltonika sent me a test email on January 27, 2025 at 12:09 via this outgoing mail server. The same applies here as for Telekom.

Summary
Against this background, the sudden appearance of the errors I posted in this issue is understandable. The RUT955 event reports were sent correctly as long as I used Telekom as my email provider. When I switched to Posteo, the errors described above occurred.

It would be very desirable if Teltonika would release a standard-compliant, corrected version of the RUT955 firmware.

Please let me know if Teltonika will do this and, if so, when.

Thank you for your attention.

Kind regards

Guenther

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed information regarding the tests you’ve performed. I have forwarded this to our developers and will keep you updated as soon as I receive feedback from them.

Best regards,

Hello Marija, do you have any feedback from R&D? BR Guenther

Hello,

Unfortunately, I haven’t received any feedback yet. However, I have asked for an ETA and will update you as soon as I get a response.

Best regards,

Good morning, Marija,
thank you very much. What is the semantic of this ETA: ETA for the corrected firmware version or ETA for R&D answer to your question?
Thanks, BR Guenther
P.S.: To be sure not to run into time out, can you please again extend automatic topic close, so that we can share results with the community. Thanks.

I have requested an ETA for feedback regarding your tests.

Additionally, I have extended the topic close time.

Best regards,

The feedback regarding your tests is expected by the end of next week. I will update you as soon as I receive it.

Thank you for your patience.

Best regards,

Good morning, Marija, the ETA will expire today. What’s the R&D assessment? Best regards, Guenther

Hello,

I have not yet received any feedback. I have followed up with the team for an update and will let you know as soon as I hear back.

Best regards,

Well, Marija, I seem to have forgotten that this is an ETA. Please excuse my impatience after 14 days. It seems to me that there isn’t much interest in solving the problem. Best regards, Guenther
