Hi Everybody,
I apologize in advance if this is beyond the scope of the community here, or if I am asking something that is unfeasible. I have enough technical knowledge to get myself into trouble, but am not well versed enough to be considered an expert.
We use tektonika telematics devices in our fleet which are equipped with the one wire RFID button. FMC640/650 units make up the bulk of our fleet. To date we have not activated the Driver ID function but are looking to change this.
We have been sent a bunch of RFID stickers/tags to use to identify individual drivers which we trialled and found were too easily lost/damaged to be reliable. As we have a HID card solution for building access we looked into dual frequency cards which would work for both the building access and driver identification systems.
The stickers came with a spreadsheet of sort which listed a long code alongside a short code. The short code identifying the relevant long code which is put into the system to associate it with a driver.
As an example sticker 2105170635 may become ID 882104E980F2422F80 in the system to identify a driver.
The difficulty I am encountering is identifying the correct ID number to associate with the RFID chip in our dual frequency cards. I can scan them with an RFID tool and get the UID of the card. But once the card is read by the telematics device it reports a different number to the UID.
Neither my card supplier or the supplier of the telematics devices can tell me how I can identify this number without having submitted it to the telematics device to identify the number. This is ok in testing where I might have 5 cards in circulation but in a live environment I could have 1000’s of cards in circulation, so I need a quicker/easier way to identify the ID number.
There are obvious correlations between the Card and the ID reported by the telematics. The UID of the card is being reversed and incorporates part of the ID number reported but there is a Prefix and a Suffix which I cannot identify where they are coming from.
For example a card with UID DA 61 B0 E1 is reported as ID 01 00 00 E1 B0 61 DA 17.
As a comparison the sticker provided has a UID of 04 E9 80 F2 42 2F 80 and is reported as ID 88 21 04 E9 80 F2 42 2F 80
What is not clear is where the 01 00 00 at the beginning and the 17 at the end of the card’s ID number come from, nor where the 88 21 at the beginning of the sticker’s ID number comes from.
I know one issue could be the differing lengths of the UID between the RFID chips in the sticker and the card.
I think because RFID is a documented standard surely I would not be limited to only being able to use the RFID stickers our telematics provider has given us. I am stuck in the middle between them and the vendor who has supplied the cards with neither seemingly able to shine any light on how I can successfully implement this system.
Am I asking the impossible or is there a way forwards?
