Description
Hello everyone,
I’m Nagesh from Saartha Labs Pvt. Ltd., and we’re evaluating GPS/telematics devices for one of our projects. We’d appreciate recommendations based on your experience.
Project Requirement
We need a commercially available GPS/telematics device that can be installed in vehicles and transmit location data to our application in near real time.
Functional Requirements
- Capture GPS location (Latitude & Longitude) with timestamp.
- Associate each device with a Vehicle ID or Vehicle Number.
- Provide battery status (or power status), if available.
- Support a few configurable/custom attributes, if supported by the device.
- Reliable operation with minimal installation effort.
Integration Requirements
We’re flexible regarding the integration mechanism. The device or its cloud platform can expose data through any of the following:
- REST APIs
- Webhooks
- MQTT
- TCP/UDP
- Any other recommended integration approach
Our team can develop the required integration services, so we’re primarily looking for a solution that provides reliable and well-documented interfaces.
Additional Information
- Expected deployment: Approximately 50 vehicles.
- We prefer an off-the-shelf solution rather than developing custom hardware.
- Ease of installation, long-term reliability, and good API/documentation support are our primary selection criteria.
Questions
- Which GPS/telematics devices would you recommend for this use case?
- Does the device provide direct API access, or is integration performed through the vendor’s cloud platform?
- Which vendors offer the best developer documentation and integration support?
- Are there any devices or vendors you would recommend avoiding based on your experience?
Any recommendations, implementation experiences, or architecture suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
