Inquiries on RS485 and RS232 Multi-Sensor Wiring for Teltonika Devices

Hello Teltonika community!

I’m interested in learning more about Teltonika devices and would really appreciate your insights on two sensor setup scenarios I’m currently working on:

Project 1 – Capacitive Fuel Sensors (Tanker Truck):

I’m working on a project involving capacitive fuel sensors, similar to the setup shown in this video (starting at 12:34):
:backhand_index_pointing_right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVMbfVd4mGs&t=815s

In the video, three sensors are connected to the RS485 port of the tracking device.

What I understand so far:

  • In LLS mode, the device supports only one RS232 sensor.
  • In RS485 mode, it can support up to five sensors.

My main questions:

  • How exactly are multiple sensors connected when using RS485 mode?
  • Are they wired in parallel, or is there a specific bus or daisy-chain configuration required?
  • If anyone has a diagram or wiring reference for this type of RS485 multi-sensor connection, it would be extremely helpful!

Project 2 – Ultrasonic Sensors via RS232 or RS485:

In another project, I’m planning to use ultrasonic sensors for measuring liquid level or distance.

My questions:

  • If connected via RS232, is it possible to wire two sensors in parallel, or is RS232 strictly one-to-one?
  • If the ultrasonic sensor uses RS485 instead, would that allow for multiple sensors on the same line — similar to the fuel sensor setup above?

Thanks in advance for any advice, wiring tips, or examples you can share! :fuel_pump:
Looking forward to learning more from this great community.

Kind regards,
Paulo

Hello @PAULO,

Good day! Please find below my comments regarding your clarifications.

Yes, you may connect up to multiple sensors in parallel using RS485 LLS Mode. While for the RS232 it is limited to single sensor only.
