Help to choose the right tracker model

Hello,

I request some help to choose a right tracker device.

Scenario will be exclusive for motorcycle thefts, with these characteristics:

  • the gps tracker should be activated manually by the driver (app, sms…) when the vehicle is stopped. If there is no manual activation by the driver, no tracking activity should exist.
  • In case of theft, the tracker should last 15-30 days sending gps positions in real time using its own lithium battery.

(Additionally (although no conditional) the tracker could be able to detect not only geofence area but also an elevation from the ground level.)

What tracker model do you recommend for this scenery?

I’m reading the FMC920 specifications, although its 170 mAh battery seems to be small. Please, confirm if the FMC920 could be able to satisfy the previous scenery.

If the FMC920 battery is not enough, please recommend a proper model.

Thank you very much

Hi,

Could you please explain this requirement in more detail?

“The tracker should remain inactive by default and only be manually activated by the rider (via an app, SMS, or another method) after parking the motorcycle.”

Are you referring to a scenario where a relay is used so that, after sending an SMS or another command, the vehicle can be enabled or disabled from starting? Or do you mean that the GPS tracker should begin tracking and reporting its location only after receiving a manual activation command?

Regarding theft protection, our devices support several features such as Unplug Detection , Towing Detection , Auto Geofence , and other movement-based events that can automatically notify you if the device is disconnected, the motorcycle is being towed, or it leaves a predefined area.

These features are available on many of our devices, including the FMx920 series as well as our Advanced and Professional tracker models.

Regarding the battery backup requirement, you can compare the available tracker models and their internal battery capacities on our product page to identify the most suitable option for your use case:

Thanks

hello and thanks for your support,

yes, I mean that the GPS tracker should begin tracking and reporting its location only after receiving a manual activation command

Basically the goal is to have an anti-theft tracker device to locate the vehicle in case of theft. Autonomous battery is important in case the recovery can be delayed 2 weeks or even more.
2 weeks of battery autonomy would be a reasonable time.

I ask for some help in this board precisely because I lack of experience to compare the battery autonomy of different models.

I read different models and its specifications, although without a previous knowledge to discern.

In example, I read that the FMC920 has a 170 mAh battery but I don’t know if this capacity would be enough to keep the tracker 15 days sending positions each X minutes in real time.

I’m reviewing other models like the TAT140 with 2200 mAh battery, although I don’t know if this capacity maybe could exceed the necessities of the proposed scenario.

Other models shows different capacities although logically I don’t know the right choosing.

I suppose that in this board there is people and knowledge with experiences in similar scenarios.
My message is to get some advice about the battery requested and tracker model according the scenario previously described.

Thanks so much for any help!

Hi,

Good Day,

If an autonomous battery-powered solution is required for an anti-theft use case, you can consider our asset tracker range, such as the TAT140 or TAT240.

These devices can achieve up to 3 years of battery life , depending on the configuration. For example, if the device is configured to send one record per day , the battery can last for approximately 3 years. Please note that these devices are not SMS-based waking up they are based on movement detection. They communicate over the cellular network and can be configured using parameters such as movement mode and stop mode , allowing different reporting intervals depending on whether the asset is moving or stationary.

The actual battery life depends on several factors, including the reporting frequency, GNSS usage, network conditions, sleep mode configuration, and other operational parameters. Therefore, we can provide a more accurate battery life estimate once the required use case and configuration are known.
