GNSS Fall back for trip feature on FMC003

Hi,

I did some tests with FMC003 and it works quite well. I primarily used Trip feature. I once made test with Odometer source as OBD/CAN while it was not available in the car. I was not worried about that since it is stated that FMC003 falls back to GNSS in case OBD/CAN is not available. However, Odometer returns 0 very often while when the source is manually set to GNSS it works quite well. So what does the device FMC003 actually do? What is meant by GNSS fallback exactly? My expectation about it would be:

  • OBD/CAN not available, same behavior as setting odometer source set to GNSS.

Can someone explain me how it actually behaves?

Thanks!
Antoine

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

Please note the odometer behavior of the device:

  • If OBD/CAN odometer data is temporarily lost during an active trip where it was previously being received correctly, the device will automatically switch to GNSS-based calculation and continue updating the odometer using GPS data.
  • However, if OBD/CAN odometer data is not available from the beginning of the trip, the device may not switch correctly to GNSS-based odometer calculation.

In such cases, it is recommended to configure the odometer source as GNSS to ensure consistent odometer readings.

Thanks
