FMC920 good tracking signal but no events reported

Hello,

I am configuring an FMC920 (Firmware 04.00.00 Rev:14, Configurator 1.8.10.B.4.00_R.7) and I am unable to get any alerts or events to trigger, either via SMS or on my Traccar server.

Device setup:

  • Powered by a 12V external power supply (no internal battery connected)
  • SIM card: Melita IoT SIM (roaming on Vodafone Spain, operator code 21401)
  • GPRS: activated, excellent signal, sending records correctly to Traccar (553+ records sent)
  • GPS: working correctly outdoors, position updating in Traccar every minute

What works:

  • GPS fix confirmed outdoors (position shown correctly in Traccar)
  • GPRS data transmission to Traccar (records sent and received by server)
  • Incoming SMS received by device (Received SMS counter incremented)
  • Configuration saves correctly to device

What does NOT work:

  • No SMS alerts sent by device (Sent SMS counter stays at 0)
  • No events of any kind appear in Traccar (Reports → Events is empty)
  • No push/email notifications triggered in Traccar Manager

Configuration tested:

  • Towing Detection: High Priority, Eventual Records enabled, Activation Timeout 1 min, Event Timeout 60s, Threshold 0.1g, Angle 1 deg, Duration 500ms, Send SMS to predefined number, Data Acquisition Change enabled
  • Crash Detection: High Priority, Threshold 2500mG, Duration 100ms, Send SMS to predefined number
  • I/O Settings: Movement set to High priority, On Change operand. Instant Movement set to High priority
  • SMS/Call Settings: Login and Password empty (two spaces used before SMS commands), authorized number in correct +34XXXXXXXXX format, same number in GSM Predefined Numbers
  • Allow SMS Data Sending: Enabled (Data Send Number empty)
  • Private/Business Mode: Disabled
  • Sleep Mode: Disabled

Tests performed:

  • Device placed outdoors with confirmed GPS fix (Traccar showing live position)
  • Device left completely still for 2+ minutes before shaking
  • Device shaken vigorously for 3-4 seconds
  • Waited several minutes after shaking
  • Result: no SMS received, no events in Traccar, no notifications

Note: outgoing SMS may be blocked at network level by the IoT SIM operator (pending confirmation from Melita). However, this does not explain why no events appear in Traccar either, since those are sent via GPRS.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Could the absence of a connected internal battery affect event generation? Could the IoT SIM roaming configuration affect high-priority event transmission?

Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

Could you please confirm whether:

  • you are testing SMS alerts for defined events, or
  • you want to send Binary SMS when GPRS is not available?

If it is for Binary SMS, then you need to:

  • enable Allow SMS Data Sending, and
  • enter the correct recipient phone number but GPRS should not be available during that time

If you want to receive SMS alerts for generated events, then:

  • enter the GSM number correctly (with or without + and country code or 00 based on operator requirements), and
  • configure the required events under the SMS Events section.

To test advanced features such as:

  • crash detection,
  • towing detection,
  • and other events,

I first suggest testing with a simple event such as Digital Input ON/OFF status, because its status can be easily verified from the IO tab to confirm whether the input is changing properly.

Please also make sure:

  • the SIM card has a valid SMS plan/credits,
  • the SIM can send SMS to the target local number,
  • and if the SIM is in roaming, roaming services for SMS should be enabled.

Once basic SMS alerts are working successfully, you can proceed with testing other parameters/events.

To verify whether events are being generated correctly, I also suggest creating a free account on the Flespi platform, where you can monitor and test the data more effectively.

You can refer to the following link for testing on Flespi:

For example, in the configuration shown below:

  • SMS Event is configured for AVL ID 1 (DIN 1),
  • and DIN 1 is enabled from the IO settings.

I suggest you connect with the seller or your Teltonika sales manager. They will help you reach out to the appropriate Helpdesk portal so the testing functionality can be checked more effectively.

As this is the Community platform, we have limited options available for advanced testing and troubleshooting.
