Which RUT to be able to use Wireless Client (STA mode) and broadcast it on its own WiFi AP

Hi,

My use case is to have a router with a LTE WiFi 5-in-1 External Antenna attached.

I want to connect to an external wifi access point such as a marina wifi and then broadcast that over the router’s own wifi access point.

I was looking at the RUT955 but someone mentioned I would need the RUTX11 as I’d need both 5ghz & 2.4ghz which the RUT955 does not have.

Please can someone explain which RUT device would be best for my use case?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Thank you for your query,

The RUTX11 is the ideal device because of these reasons:

RUTX11 WIFI can simultaneously work in two modes:

  1. AP (Access Point) - it allows other WIFI devices to connect to the router’s WIFI network and obtain internet connectivity

  2. STA (Station/client) - it allows the router itself to connect to an external WIFI network for internet access
This means it will be connected to the External AP and it will provide internet access to the clients connected to its WIFI AP. The RUTX11 supports the IEEE 802.11ac (WIFI5) meaning it can broadcast in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and can have up to 150 simultaneous connections.
The procedure on how to set up the device in STA mode is linked here RUTX11 Wireless - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Secondly, if you want to use the WIFI Extender/repeater or a relay feature whereby RUT2 clients will receive IP addresses from the RUT1 DHCP range. Therefore, RUT2 WIFI AP clients will belong to the same Network as the RUT1 device. Configuration examples can be found here RUTOS relay / Wi-Fi extender / repeater / bridge configuration - Teltonika Networks Wiki

Moreover, the device also has option has a service called Hotspot which provides authentication, authorization, and accounting for a network and more information about that is here RUTX11 Hotspot - Teltonika Networks Wiki (teltonika-networks.com)

Lastly, If you require the router to have both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz then RUTX11 would be an ideal device because the RUT955 only broadcast in 2.4GHz and does not support 5GHz. But just a note is that the RUT955 also works simultaneously as a WIFI Client (STA) and an access point (AP). So if utilizing 5GHz is not a must the RUT955 could be utilized as well.

Best regards,
