How many roof antennas need to be installed on a motorhome roof for the RUTM52 Router to achieve optimal reception? The device itself has 8 antenna cable inputs.
Hello,
For the RUTM52, with 8 antenna cable inputs, the most optimal reception performance can be achieved by installing two 5G MIMO roof antennas. A recommended setup would include 1x 5G Combo MIMO Mobile/GNSS/Wi-Fi Roof SMA Antenna and 1x 5G Combo MIMO Mobile Roof SMA Antenna.

Hi,
which antennas should be connected if the number of antennas is limited to 2 per modem? Is there an overview available which limitations in speed or frequency bands are expected if not all antennas are connected?
Thank you in advance
I got response from @dollrunner which unfortunately doesn’t show up as a new post:
If limited to 2 antennas, prioritize connecting the main 5G MIMO antennas for best performance. Using fewer antennas may reduce speed and limit some frequency bands, but exact impacts depend on your network conditions and device configuration.
Does anybody know which physical antenna ports at the RUTM52 I have to connect? These are all just labeled as MOBILE.
Thank you.
Hello,
Thank you for your patience and follow up.
If the antennas are limited to two per modem, here’s the recommended approach:
On the RG520F/RG520N, each antenna port serves the following purpose:
- ANT0 – Main antenna (mandatory for operation)
- ANT1 – Diversity antenna for better reception
- ANT2 – Auxiliary antenna for MIMO
- ANT3 – Additional antenna for MIMO or specific bands
Depending on your priority:
- For better sensitivity (RX diversity) – use ANT0 and ANT3 (first and fourth connectors)
- For better throughput (RX MIMO) – use ANT2 and ANT3 (third and fourth connectors)
Furthermore, to note, if you connect only ANT0 and ANT3 for 2 modems, 4G LTE will work but with some restrictions. 5G will also work, but downlink/uplink speeds will depend on the band in use — you may see a 5G icon, but speeds might not reach full 5G performance.
Feel free to reach out if you need further clarification or specific setup guidance.
