Right now I have AVM Fritzbox 6850 5G in use but it causes many problems since few months. Therefore I am thinking about a substitution and an upgrade in my household. As I do live on the countryside the only option for fast internet is via cellular reception, 5G.
Which Teltonika product fits best (in terms of 5G reception) for this scenario? Is it:
TRB500 or
TRB501 (what’s the difference between TRB500 and TRB501 except for the 2.5 GB LAN connectivity?) or
RUTC50 or
some other product I missed to list here?
What’s the difference between the modems built in the above mentioned devices?
My setup would like to: use the the Teltonika product either in bridge mode or in passthrough mode to establish an internet connection. Than this is connected via WAN to an Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber which fires up a Wifi 7 Access point.
I appreciate your help in finding a proper solution.
In addition to what you mentioned, I want to offer to look into RUTX50 or RUTM30 as well, as they both also have 5g. RUTX50 is considered to be one of our more popular devices.
For your scenario, all the mentioned devices will be able to perform.
TRB501 (what’s the difference between TRB500 and TRB501 except for the 2.5 GB LAN connectivity?
These devices can have different mobile modems. If you have a product code, I would be able to tell you which mobile modem that device has, as this information is not public by default.
Considering that I „only“ need a modem that establishes the connection between the Internet Service Provider (via cellular reception) and the Unifi router (compulsory via Ethernet, not USB-C) a 5G gateway should be enough, right? All the other devices mentioned above also set up a WiFi network (are able to do so respectively) and should be more expensive.
As I do not own the Teltonika device yet because I am looking for advice here, I cannot tell which product code the TRB500/TRB501 will have. Is there anything special I should pay attention to?
One last question: Shall I operate in bridge mode or in passthrough mode? I do not fully understand the difference (for my use case: 5G gateway connected via ethernet to the router).
RUTC50 would be considered a router, i did think you are considering those too.
In regards to the mobile modem, all you should consider, with which mobile bands, does you Sim provider work. In the device details on our website, in ordering section you can find with which mobile bands, what product code device works. TRB500 5G Gateway
