What SIM do I need?

I’m new to the use of the RUT950 and have two user cases.

  1. Creating a bridge via GSM, between two sections of the same network.
  2. Remotely accessing a network via GSM, to monitor the network from my laptop.

I would like to use a normal data SIM, rather than a fixed IP version, but I don’t know what I would be limited to be able to do, with a normal SIM?

Hi…

Check your country for ip address assigned to sim cards.

The two cases, explained by you, only will work with public ip, don’t need to be fixed ip, but should be public or you will need to build a vpn, from those sim card, without public ip, to somewhere with public ip.

Sounds like you need a VPN but if both ends of your tunnel have Private IP’s then you need to use Zerotier, which the Wiki informs me, the RUT950 supports.

If one end of your tunel has a Private IP and the other end has a Public IP, then you can still use Zerotier but can also consider using Wireguard or OpenVPN (or others), which the RUT950 also supports.

I guess nowadays with mobile networks making sure the provider uses IPv6 would be the easiest way to go at this.

Hi…

IPv6 ( for LAN and WAN) on old RUt950?
You need to check at datasheet and the firmware release notes about IPv6.

I see no reason for that not to work: https://teltonika-networks.com/products/routers/rut950

I wouldn’t consider IPv6 a modern feature anymore either
