What is the most suitable router for live-streaming?

Hi there,

I’m trying to decide what Teltonika router would suits better my needs.
I’m a live-streaming producer and what I need is internet at all times. I can’t afford to lose internet at all when I’m streaming. Don’t need huge speeds but the connection need to be solid.
I’m checking all your model and it looks like RUTX12 with 2 modems would be the best but I have some questions.

  1. Is the failover from modem 1 to modem 2 instant?
  2. How long would take to failover from wan (ethernet) to LTE modem (either of the modems)
  3. How long would take to failover from WiFi wan to LTE modem (either of the modems)
  4. Is there any other of your product better for my needs than RUTX12

Thanks and I appreciate a prompt response.

Hello,

Thank you for your query.

The RUTX12 is the ideal device because it supports dual 4G(LTE) with CAT 6 technology and speeds to 300Mbps which is suitable for live streaming.

If you would prefer higher throughput speeds, you would opt for the RUTX14 with CAT12 with download speeds of up to 600 Mbps or the RUTX50 with theoretical download speeds of up to 3.3Gbps and both have failover features. More information on the RUTX14 and RUTX50 can be found here Teltonika Networks - IoT Routers (teltonika-networks.com)

Switching from the Main WAN to the backup will depend on the settings that have been configured, for example by default it will not be instantaneous because the device performs 3 pings that are done after every 3 seconds thus a total of ~10 seconds. This setting is adjustable and can be adjusted to do only 1 ping then perform the switch to the backup WAN in case of a Wan Failure and can be as low as ~2 second. More information about the configuration can be found here RUTX12 Failover - Teltonika Networks Wiki (teltonika-networks.com).

But for the case of the RUTX12, it will be much faster in switching from SIM1 to SIM2 because both Sim cards are active.

For the 4th question: The RUTX12 device is the ideal device giving you uninterrupted internet due to the failover service and dual LTE opening up the possibility of bonding bandwidth that is not supported by default but is achievable from our partner, Bondix intelligence and the more information about the feature is here Bondix Intelligence - Teltonika Networks Wiki (teltonika-networks.com)

Thanks for your reply Kurui.

hi i have a similar scenario. is there any way that i can do this dual 4g feature with rutx50? or are there any devices planed that can handle two 5g connections at the same time like rutx12?

Hi,

Thank You for the question.

Unfortunately, the only device capable of simultaneously running two Sim cards is RUTX12, the only device with two modem modules inside.

Therefore, this wouldn’t be possible on RUTX50, but you could try using Bondix intelligence and combining Wired WAN, WiFi, and mobile connectivity.

You can find more information in my previous comment on this topic with information where you can get to know the features in the links provided.

100% RUTX12 for livestreaming because it is the only RUT with 2 x live connections

We have seen many events streamed using this method also popular is to plug a 3rd connection into WAN so there are 3x separate connections

End user normally uses a cheap unlimited SIM card in LAN & allocated another 2 seperate networks to SIM1 & SIM2 for failover

It is also possible to bond the 2 or 3 connections together using bondix so there is no handover needed at all it is just one continuous livestream
