WebUI Access error

Hi,

I occasionally had an issue in the past where I would need to use WebUI to access a router, mostly it is via VPN, and on occasionally I would get the message WebUI Blocked.

However, currently, all the routers I have tried to access WebUI on have been blocked.

I click the Unblock button and get a message to say it has been unblocked and the usual WebUI window appears.

On clicking connect I just get an “internal error!” message pop up at the top of the screen.

Previously this happened rarely but now it seems to happening to all the routers.
How can I resolve this?

I have checked off all the common causes.

thanks,

Jim

Don’t know for sure, but it sounds like your trying to access routers via RMS.

Has this issue just happened today 25th June 2026? I ask because the RMS platform is being updated today so users will be experiencing problems.

No only the past couple of months or so.
I don’t often need to use the WebUI but it has come in really useful.

a few times last year I had it happen and clicking the Unblock WebUI button resolved it and that only affected one or two routers at any one time.

Currently all of the routers I have tried I am getting this problem

I don’t think i can help you much myself, but what i can do though is ask for more info so that others more knowledgeable can perhaps offer help.

What models are the routers?

What firmwares have they got installed on them, there are two firmwares, device and modem?

Which VPN are you using?

What types of devices are you using to gain access to the routers, MS windows laptops and desktops, smartphones etc etc.

Anything else that you think might help others to help you?

I manage around 135 devices within the RMS portal.
these are mostly RUT956’s followed by RUT955’s and there are a couple of RUTX50’s.

The majority are very close to being the latest firmware version varying from 00.07.18.3 to 00.07.22.3 there are a few that have been offline a long time and are much older, but the issue I am experiencing is on the newer versions of firmware.

When access is required to the router for configuration or for traffic to pass through to the site devices we use an OpenVPN connection where the routers are split in VPN Hubs for each client.

It is Windows 11 devices that access the VPN which is a bit irrelevant as it is pretty much only myself access the routers via WebUI and as said previously only when I am unable to get on to the router via VPN.

It just feels to me it’s either something in portal or with the connection between RMS and the router but I have no real knowledge of how this all works.

Appreciate your responses and help.

This isn’t a desperately urgent issue but it is something I really would like to get resolved.

Again this is something i personally am unfamiliar with… googling it .. it would seem that the unblock WebUI button is / could be caused by “Too many failed login attempts”.

So, is this happening possibly either by you or by some other unauthorized person / people.

I would be tempted to have a look at the security of your VPN connections and perhaps change keys / passwords etc just in case.

If you know the phone number of the ruts you can send an sms message to unblock all or specific ip addresses.

[admin password] ipunblock [your ip address].. AdminPassWord ipunblock xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

to unblock all ip addresses, i wouldn’t do this one AdminPassWord ipunblock

And after logging into a router have a look at: System > Administration > Access Control and have a look under security to see if there’s a list of failed logins and who and where they are coming from. Unblock those that you know and trust.

Just a thought, trying to help with something i’m unfamiliar with.

Navigating to System > Administration > Access Control and clicking on “Settings” you can disable this feature (NOT RECOMMENDED) or tinker with some settings a little bit.

Hello @Jim,

Apologies for the delayed response.

Could you kindly confirm whether your issue has been resolved, or if you still require any assistance?

Best regards,

Hi Marija,

This can now be closed I managed to identify what the problem was causing the issue and have rectified it.

Many thanks.

Can i ask what the problem was, can you share it with us so that others following behind can benefit from the experience.

I wasn’t aware of how WebUI communicated with the router. I now know it uses the HTTP protocol.

In an attempt to make the router more secure I inadvertently caused the issue in disabling the HTTP management port using only HTTPS.
