Thanks for contacting Teltonika Networks’ technical support team.
You are correct about RUTX12 and its mobile capabilities. It has 2 mobile modems and can use 2 SIM cards at the same time. Other dual SIM routers have only 1 mobile modem. You would need to perform a SIM switch and only then you could use the second SIM.
To access the router remotely, simply connect to the WebUI. Go to System → Administration → Access Control. Then enable remote access for your desired service.
To reach devices inside the LAN you would need to enable remote access and create additional port forward rules.
Note: ensure that SIM 2 has a lower metric setting than SIM 1. If SIM 2 has a higher metric setting (higher priority) than SIM 1, the router will prioritize the SIM 2 network interface for all internet traffic. You can also create custom firewall rules for SIM 2 to restrict regular internet traffic and only allow remote access from a specific device.
An alternative solution would be to use a different router (not RUTX12) and use the unlimited data SIM card as a main SIM. While the other SIM would work as a failover for added redundancy. Then you could use our Remote Management System (RMS) to reach the router and devices inside the LAN. One great feature of our Remote Management System is that Teltonika Networks devices do not need a public static IP. They only need an active internet connection. To reach other devices inside LAN you could use a feature called RMS Connect. It supports SSH, SFTP, Telnet, RDP/VNC, and HTTP(S) protocols.
