I’ve set up the RUTX50 after doing a factory reset and then allowed the ping (icmp) port forward rule. Even with enabling the rule, I’m unable to ping the routers public ip from the outside world.
The router is connected with an o2 mobile sim so not sure if this has something to do with the issue?
To allow pings to your device’s public IP from the WAN, you don’t need to set up a port forwarding rule. ICMP traffic can be managed directly from the firewall settings, which allows external pings to your router without requiring a port forwarding configuration.
By default, ICMP requests are typically enabled in Network → Firewall → Traffic Rules, where you’ll find a rule like the one shown in your screenshot.
You may want to verify that this rule is active. If it’s not, enabling it should allow pings to reach your router’s public IP.
Additionally, mobile providers sometimes restrict incoming connections on public IP addresses for security reasons, so it may be worth checking with them to ensure that ICMP traffic is allowed over their network.
If this is a regular O2 Domestic Retail SIM, then it will be a Private IP via CGNAT. In the UK, O2 only provide Public IP SIM’s for Business Accounts if they subscribe to that particular service, which is costly. I would guess the same holds true anywhere in Europe for O2 / Telefonica / Movistar.
If you want to access the router and/or devices behind it from the internet, then you’ll have to use a VPN or VPN Relay, depending on the type of IP you have at either end of the tunnel.
Public IP ↔ Private IP : you could use Wireguard
Private IP ↔ Private IP : you could use Tailscale or Zerotier
