TSW212 SFP Monitoring

Have two TSW212 on test, the application is to go from 1GE DWDM sfp to RJ45.

Is there a way to show optical values of the sfp in the gui ? I can see them using ethtool

root@TSW212:~# ethtool -m sfp2
	Identifier : 0x0b (DWDM-SFP)
	Optical diagnostics support : Yes
Laser bias current : 92.040 mA
	Laser output power : 1.2359 mW / 0.92 dBm
Receiver signal average optical power : 0.0001 mW / -40.00 dBm
	Module temperature : 47.32 degrees C / 117.18 degrees F
	Module voltage : 3.2134 V
	Alarm/warning flags implemented : Yes

Question 2:

The two sfp slots seems to behave differently, if I move the sfp from slot 2 to slot 1 then the laser will not start. Is there a technical difference between the two ports?

root@TSW212:~# ethtool -m sfp1
	Identifier : 0x0b (DWDM-SFP)
	Optical diagnostics support : Yes
Laser bias current : 0.000 mA
	Laser output power : 0.0001 mW / -40.00 dBm
Receiver signal average optical power : 0.0001 mW / -40.00 dBm
	Module temperature : 44.12 degrees C / 111.42 degrees F
	Module voltage : 3.2398 V
	Alarm/warning flags implemented : Yes

Hello,

I’ll inquire with our RnD in regards to this, will get back to you.

Should not be the case since there’s no hardware difference between the two ports. What firmware version are you on? Also, if you go to the WebUI → Network → Ports and if you were to connect the laser to the 2nd SFP port, does it light up in the WebUI? (might need a refresh) - see LAN1 port for reference:

Regards,
M.

Additional question I have, is what kind of laser is it? Or rather, what kind of device is it that you’re connecting?

Regards,
M.

We are running FW TSW2_R_00.01.06.3_WEBUI.bin on both boxes.
The test I’m running is two TSW212 back to back.
TSW212 SFP - fiber - SFP TSW212

We are using optics from flexoptix, 1G ZR 80km DWDM, model P.1696.23.58. Configured as Generic.

But when I now re-coded them to 1GE Juniper, they started to work in both slot 1 and slot 2.

That is good enuff for me, so I don’t think we need to look any deeper on that issue.

But it would be great if you could see at least Tx and Rx dBm in the Gui, hoping for positive feedback from you RnD.

Kindly

Magnus
