TRB500 Port Forwarding

Hello everyone,

I recently became the owner of a TRB500, which I want to use as a mobile receiver for a separate NAS (Synology).

I want to be able to access this NAS remotely using a standard login method. DDNS is provided by Synology and a port has been assigned (6429).

Although port forwarding is normally not a problem and the documentation does not help me either, I have not been able to enable a port on the TRB500.

Question: Is there anyone who can help me enable the port on a TRB500?

Many thanks!

PeterKarel

Were you not able to forward a port at all, or did you make some configuration but it turned out to be not working as expected?

Most 5G providers do not allow incoming connects to their clients, so this is normally not going to work, unless you have made special arrangements with your mobile provider.

Thank you for your reply.

Indeed, I was unable to forward any ports.

We do not have any special agreements with the mobile service provider. We tried two different providers: Vodafone and KPN.

I now understand that a NAT setup must first be created.

There appear to be so many restrictions to this solution that it might be better and cheaper to get a regular fiber optic cable connection.

Thank you,

PeterKarel

Hello,

If you want to access your NAS remotely from the WAN, the first thing to confirm is whether your mobile operator assigns you a public IP address (static or dynamic). A public IP is necessary for port forwarding to work properly.

If you already have a public static or dynamic IP assigned, could you please share a screenshot of your currently configured port forwarding rule pointing to the NAS?

In the meantime, if you haven’t already, I recommend reviewing our guide article on port forwarding for LAN device access here:

Hello Martynas,

I have experimented so much that I have reset the system to its factory settings.

In the meantime, I am preparing a new NAS so as not to risk rendering the existing system unusable.

I also want to buy a new Data-SIM card, possibly with a fixed IP address.

I will get back to you as soon as the new installation is ready.

Thank you for your response.

Kind regards,

Peter Heynemann

It took a while, but now the new configuration is in place.

The SIM card has a fixed IP address.
The TRB500 has been reset.
I still can’t open any ports.

Outbound traffic (to the internet) works fine.
The goal is to open one port, in this example port 5001.
I am including some images so you can see what I have done.

If you manage to open one port as an example, that would be a great help.

Many thanks,

Peter Heynemann

Hello,

Thank you for the update.

Have you had a chance to look at the port forwarding example article? In your case, a single port forwarding rule from the WAN external port 5001 to the internal port 5001 on 192.168.2.50 should be sufficient.

Just to confirm, is remote HTTP access enabled on the device?

Also, could you please share the first two octets of the IP address assigned by your carrier?

As a side note, the traffic rule you’ve added isn’t required for this setup, so you can go ahead and remove it.

Best regards,

Hello Martynas,

Thank you for your reply.

I followed the port forwarding instructions exactly and reset the system several times to ensure that previous errors did not occur.

Unfortunately, I was unable to open any ports.
Port 5001 is the remote port for HTTPS on the Synology NAS.
(It works perfectly in a “normal” fiber optic + FritzBox environment.)

The IP number provided by the provider is: 10.148.X.XX.
The APN is “fixedip.m2m”
According to the provider, this is a “Fixed IP” with “Machine to Machine” APN.

I will remove the unnecessary “Traffic Rule.”

Question:
Do all rules have to be filled in for the release of a port?

Such as:
“Zones”
“Traffic Rules”
“NAT Rules”
“Port Forwarding”

Or are only the “Port Forwarding” rules sufficient?

Thank you again for your help.

Best regards,

Peter Heynemann.

Dear Martynas,

Problem solved!

The problem was not with your TRB500, nor with the settings, nor with the connected NAS.
The problem is the Service Provider.
A special APN belongs to this special SIM card and is provided by the Service Provider, after much inquiry!

I have indeed learned a lot about your TRB500.

Thank you again for your help.
Kind regards,
Peter Heynemann
