TRB500 – Fatal error on modem

Hello, TRB500 was suddenly disconnected from BTS (=>lost internet connection) and unreachable via local network for cca 2-3 minutes. Ping to 192.198.2.1 was successful, but web UI was not available. Everything was restored/reconnected within 3 minutes but it is still an issue as this is an industrial grade device that is expected to be stable. According to Unify Console, which acts as a router on our network, this happens regularly.

Is there anyone here who can help with diagnostics and tell me what could be going wrong and if there is anything I can do about it, or should I return the unit and ask for a refund? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

While I can’t tell the exact cause, I can say that the issue appears to be within the traffic offloading layer on the TRB500.
If the modem firmware is not RG501QEUAAR12A08M4G_04.200.04.200, could you try updating using the process described here: TRB500 modem update proceedure
This modem firmware fixes the issues that were previously present with some operators utilizing n28 5G band, as well as some other improvements.
Additionally, it seems like you are using TRB500 in NAT mode with only a router connected downstream. If this is the case, I’d suggest setting the TRB500 to Bridge or Passthrough mode by navigating to Network → WAN → edit mob1s1a1 instance and change the mode to Passthrough (this most likely won’t help with the issue, but it will help avoid double or triple NATing).
Could you also comment what sort of configuration you have on the TRB500? Is it running any of the included services? Perhaps you have any custom mobile connection parameters?

I will try updating the internal modem firmware as you suggested. If it helps I will let you know. Meanwhile, there is more on setting up my TRB500. I am running it in passthrough mode, otherwise it would be difficult to access it via admin WEB UI on 192.168.2.1.

This seems to be problematic. I cannot update it
I tried 2x, result is the same (+redownload the file). Upload was successful, but shortly after msg “File is being processed” it ends in failure.

We have removed some of the comments in this comment section that discussed a procedure for updating the modem. This procedure is meant for internal use or special cases where the standard method is not available. However, this procedure is quite complex and risky, as any interruption in power or connection could cause irreversible damage to the modem. Therefore, we have decided to delete the information related to this procedure.

The recommended way to update the modem is to use the DFOTA service by navigating to System → Firmware. This is much safer and simpler than the alternative procedure.
