RUTX50 >> Wlan antenna

Hi,

I have a RUTX50 and wanted to replace the two small wifi antennas with rod antennas to get a bit more range.

I used this one: https://www.delock.de/produkt/88913/merkmale.html?setLanguage=en

After a test I realized that the dBi actually got worse. How can that be? According to the data sheet, they should actually get 5-7 dBi more.

Good afternoon,

The Delock antenna operates at 2.4–2.5 GHz (5 dBi) and 5.15–5.875 GHz (7 dBi), which are Wi-Fi-specific bands.
The RUTX50’s cellular (4G/5G) antennas require support for 700 MHz–3600 MHz), which the Delock model doesn’t cover. Using Wi-Fi antennas for cellular connectivity results in poor signal reception.
The RUTX50 has dedicated SMA ports for cellular (ANT0/ANT1) and RP-SMA ports for Wi-Fi.
If the Delock antennas (RP-SMA) were incorrectly installed on cellular ports, this would explain the worsened performance. Always verify physical connector types and port purposes.
While the Delock antennas advertise higher gain (5–7 dBi vs. stock antennas), gain alone doesn’t guarantee better range.
Omnidirectional antennas (like the Delock) distribute signal uniformly, which can be less effective in directional scenarios compared to stock antennas optimized for specific use cases.
Use cellular-specific antennas (e.g., Poynting A-MIMO-3-V2-17) that support 700–3600 MHz.
Ensure antennas are connected to ANT0/ANT1 for cellular and Wi-Fi antennas to their dedicated ports.
Test signal quality using built-in diagnostics and avoid mixing antenna types (e.g., directional with omnidirectional).

Arturas
